Why Newcastle United are the perfect club to takeover

The failed European Super League proposals have led to fans of those six clubs demanding change and new ownership. In turn, this has sparked rumours with the most noticeably the founder of music streaming platform Spotify has declared himself being very serious about a £2BN takeover of the London club.

Elsewhere, Liverpool’s owners the FSG group have reportedly rejected an offer in the region of £3BN to takeover the Reds which has got me thinking about how come Newcastle have not been taken over yet.

If you were to buy Newcastle United, you are getting a club so starved of success that any small steps taken would be welcomed as huge progress. You would be getting a fanbase that has shown time and time again the incredible loyalty it has, a fanbase that averaged 51000 through the gates in the Championship.

Furthermore, you would be buying one of the best and most iconic stadiums in the country. Situated right slap bang in the middle of the city centre and with a unique and characterful design, St. James’ Park is truly one of a kind and a far cry from the flat pack like stadiums that are dotted around the country these days.

All you would have to do is give it a lick of paint, take down the horrible, tacky Sports Direct advertising from every inch of the stadium and you have a truly incredible stadium.

On the playing front, they would be buying a Premier League side that with a bit of investment wouldn’t be too far from trying to crack the top eight or nine in the division.

Buying Newcastle would undoubtedly be a bit more of a project than any of the other top six sides but if you have £2/3BN knocking around, why not spend £300M on Newcastle United and spend some of the rest on maximising the enormous potential that the club undoubtedly has.

Of course, we are all hoping for a positive outcome to the Saudi led takeover deal that would truly give fans hope of the club reaching its potential but it is mental that 14 years on in the Ashley reign and few have been able to see just how smart a move it would be to takeover Newcastle United.
