Why Are We Waiting? – Isak Update

|

At the time of writing, Newcastle are still awaiting the approval of Alexander Isak‘s work permit ahead of tonight’s trip to Liverpool.

Despite making the trip to Wolves on Sunday, Isak was unable to be involved as his work permit application hadn’t been processed, and now, three days later and with a game tonight at 8pm, Newcastle are still awaiting the relevant paperwork which will allow Isak to be involved in tonight’s fixture at Anfield.

The £63m signing from Real Sociedad is Newcastle’s record transfer and fans are eager to see him in action, especially with the current injury crisis which is seriously affecting the attacking prowess of the team.

The cut-off for the application to be approved in time for Isak to feature tonight is 75 minutes before kick-off, meaning if the paperwork isn’t completed before 6:45pm tonight then Isak will once again have to watch from the sidelines. Eddie Howe seemed a tad anxious when asked about it yesterday saying: “It would be great to see him involved for us, but we’re in the hands still of other people.

“We’re desperately hoping that gets done before the game, but there’s no guarantee as I sit here now.”

If Isak Is Cleared Should He Start Against Liverpool?

Definitely

It’s a problem that could become more and more common going forward as European players are now required to have work permits since Britain left the EU which will slow down the transfer process.

Looking at the Casmiero deal for Manchester United, he was signed on 22nd August and his work permit was granted on 25th, so hopefully, the issue with Isak is that we had the misfortune of signing him on a Friday before a Bank Holiday weekend. If the turnaround for Casimero is any indication, Isak should get his clearance today in time for the match. Fingers crossed.
