What Is Happening At Castore?

|

Newcastle’s latest kit manufacturer, Castore, are having a nightmare lately and fans are beginning to wonder just what we’ve got ourselves into.

The 2021/22 season was Castore’s first season with Newcastle, and their first in Premier League football as a new kid on the block. Their kits were well received for the most part, although the home shirt was mocked online for the way the collar, thick middle stripe and Fun88 sponsor lined up to make a  huge number 4 on the front of the shirt.

However, while the look of the kits was praised, when fans got their hands of them they were small fitting and had a tendency to shrink in the wash, leading a lot of people brand the kits as cheap and nasty and claiming the deal to be the last act of defiance by Mike Ashley.

This season hasn’t got off to a better start for Castore either, with their third kit being raked over the coals for seemingly paying tribute to Saudi Arabia. It’s an own goal we just didn’t need given that we are constantly facing backlash for our majority shareholders, bringing attention to it just wasn’t needed.

And now as kits arrive in the hands of fans, some are finding that their Newcastle kit is coming wrapped in Rangers bags (Castore are also Rangers’ kit suppliers).  That’s just the people who have actually received their kits with some still waiting for their pre-orders to arrive.

Then, on Thursday, the training gear was launched and fans flocked to the site to pre-order the shirts to find the women’s shirts were £8 more expensive than the men’s. An error that was later corrected by upping the men’s shirts by £8 later on in the day.

Castore are a relatively new company so it’s fine to have some teething problems, but it just seems to be one thing after another at the moment, making fans wonder how long this deal is set to last and when we can expect a new manufacturer to take over.
