“We’re Not Actively Bidding At The Moment” – Howe Gives Transfer Update

|

During this morning’s press briefing, Eddie Howe was inevitably asked about transfers.

We are approaching the midway point of the month which means we’ve had two weeks of the transfer window and so far Newcastle haven’t done any deals either incoming or outgoing, other than the arrival and departure of Garang Kuol who was signed back in October for the January window and was loaned out to Hearts almost immediately.

We have, of course, been linked with many players as we find ourselves on the precipice of European football it becomes more and more important that we strengthen our squad to enable us to compete next season.

The 2-1 defeat at the hands of Sheffield Wednesday only highlighted how desperate we are for reinforcements in the squad as so many of the 25 registered players we have right now simply aren’t good enough for the level we find ourselves at now. That means they definitely won’t be able to hold their own should we qualify for Europe.

But despite all the links and wishful thinking from the Toon Army, it seems we are still a way off from signing anybody as Howe told the press this morning: “We’re working hard at the moment on staying in contact with the market & looking at players & doing a lot of work. We’re not imminently close to signing anybody. We’re not actively bidding for players at the moment. It’s a watching brief currently.” (via The Chronicle)
