Magpie Swaps Tyneside for Tynecastle

The club today confirmed that new signing Garang Kuol has agreed to join Scottish Premiership side Hearts of Midlothian on loan for the remainder of the season.

Kuol only landed in England last week following his switch from Australian side, Central Coast Mariners. The plan with Kuol was always to loan him out immediately upon his arrival, but that was originally as he would have needed to play in Europe to accrue points for a work permit – as it happened, Kuol’s appearances in the World Cup for Australia allowed his work permit application to be approved.

As such, Kuol is now free to play in the UK which is how the move to Hearts came about. Garang Kuol was pictured with Shola Ameobi having a tour of Hearts’ facilities last week sparking rumours of a loan move north of the border.

Hearts currently sit in third place in the Scottish Premier League behind Rangers and Celtic. The competition in Scotland is fierce and will be a good place for Kuol to get used to the way the game is played in Britain as the Australian League has an entirely different pace about it.

The BBC website had quotes from the Hearts boss, Robbie Nielson: “We’re getting a player who is by no means the finished article but there is a lot of talent there,”

“You don’t get called up to and play in the World Cup for nothing.

“He’ll offer us new options going forward as we look to continue our good form and continue to make progress in the league and in the Scottish Cup, and we’re really looking forward to working with him.”

We wish Garang Kuol the best of luck up in Scotland and hope that we see him in the black and white stripes next season.
