Newcastle Scouts Watch Lorient Striker

|

Newcastle’s scouts were over in France on Wednesday to cast their eye over highly-rated striker, Terem Moffi.

This is according to Football Insider 24/7 who say that the scouting team were there to watch Moffi score his eleventh goal of the season as Lorient (not to be confused with Leyton Orient) drew 2-2 with Monaco.

That goal put Moffi joint second in the Ligue 1 scoring charts behind Kylian Mbappe which isn’t a stat to be sniffed at.

Football Insider believes that Newcastle are looking for attacking options over the next two windows, but face stiff competition for Moffi with sources telling them that Southampton have already had a £20m bid rejected for the 23-year-old forward.

There are many Premier League clubs interested in Moffi, with Everton, Aston Villa, West Ham, Leicester City and Bournemouth also regularly scouting the Nigerian, including in midweek.

It’s no real surprise to see such a long list of suitors given that Moffi has bagged 34 goals and seven assists across 89 games since joining Lorient in 2020.

Moffi’s stats are definitely impressive and it sounds like he could be a good investment for the future and good cover for Callum Wilson and Alexander Isak in the short-term. Although there’s talk that new Bournemouth owner Bill Foley is investing in a 33% stake in Lorient which would put them in pole position to sign Moffi if a link is formed between the two clubs.

This might be one to keep an eye on.
