The Possible Return Of A Familiar Face To Newcastle

|

An interesting piece of transfer speculation has appeared in the media this morning.

According to the respected news source, the Guardian, Newcastle United are looking to bring Andros Townsend back to the club.

Townsend, currently on the books of Crystal Palace, joined Newcastle United, back in January 2016 for a fee said to be in the region of £12 million.

However, despite professing a love for the club, Townsend’s stay was relatively short-lived.

Newcastle were relegated from the top-flight, in May 2016, subsequently, in July of the same year Tottenham Hotspur activated the release clause in his contract and the player was sold.

But, returning to our referenced source, it appears that Newcastle are looking to pay £20 million for the winger who is still only 26-years-of-age.

If Newcastle are to be successful in their quest, they will have to hold off attempts from another Premier League club, Leicester City, to secure the signature of Townsend.

But, what are our views on the possible deal?

They say you should never return to a club where you’ve already played, but, in this case, we’d welcome the signing of Townsend. Last season Townsend was instrumental in ensuring that Crystal Palace stayed in the Premier League. His pace allied with his shooting prowess makes him a valuable asset to any side. As for the fee, in the modern age, it seems pretty reasonable.

Go get him, Rafa, he’ll be a welcome addition to the starting eleven.
