Unfortunately it is no longer April fools day and there is an actual report stating that Steve Bruce could be offered a new contract in the summer.

This baffling report comes courtesy of the Telegraph and states that the unpopular Head Coach may be rewarded with a new deal.

Relegation or not, there is no way that Steve Bruce should be manager of Newcastle United Football Club till the end of the season let alone warranting a new contract.

Toon fans may even start to feel conflicted if the only way we can get rid of Bruce is if the club were to be relegated from the Premier League.

At no other club would abject failure be rewarded like it is with us and the worst thing about this report is I wouldn’t even be surprised if it turned out to be true.

What is even harder to get your head round as a fan is the fact that Ashley had Rafael Benitez in charge. A manager who has won it all in football and had shown progression year on year as Toon boss and he refused to back him and yet Steve Bruce, a man whose only real achievement in longevity is backed with over £100M transfer spend and unwavering support from the top despite going on a hideous run of two wins from 20 games in all competitions.

Is that how much Mike’s ego was hurt by Benitez calling him out in the press or is he simply trying to get back at the fans for the amount of stick he gets? He must know how unpopular Bruce is with the fanbase.

Bruce should have never been appointed in the first place and the fact that he still has his job is ridiculous, can you imagine the reaction if he was handed a contract extension?
