Newcastle manager Steve Bruce has suggested that the club will have to sell players before they are able to make any more signings this summer.

The Magpies have already signed several new players during the transfer window, with Callum Wilson, Jamal Lewis, Mark Gillespie, Ryan Fraser and Jeff Hendrick all making the move to St James’ Park.

But while Bruce is apparently keen to add more players to his squad, it seems the Magpies boss will have to move some on before he is able to do that, with several senior players now training with the club’s Under 23s side.

Speaking about the prospect of making more signings before the window closes, Bruce told The Shield’s Gazette: “We can’t just keep collecting them (players). We’ve got five or six training with the under-23s.

“It’s not going to be healthy at all for anyone so that’s got to be part of the remit between now and the end of the window.”

Discussing the possibility of that sort of business happening, and the need for it to do so, Bruce went on to say: “We’ll see. As I’ve said, I’ve been delighted with what we’ve done. We’ve brought in four or five new players and I’m sure they will be really good additions to the squad.

“At this particular moment, only two have gone so we have to try and make room and let others move on as well.”

As frustrating as it may be given the apparent lingering need for new signings, it does seem to make sense for Bruce and co. to take this approach.

The club have already spent big to complete the signings of the likes of Wilson and Lewis this summer, and at some point that money is going to have to come back into the club if they are to continue to recruit.

That is something that is only going to be enhanced by the current difficult financial situation the club – like so many others across the World – find themselves in right now, and it is good to see that the club are looking to keep themselves secure against further challenges in that sense.
