Stadium Debate Resurfaces Following Season Ticket Demand

|

As the feel-good factor returns to Newcastle so too has the demand for season tickets. With an ambitions board, a young talented manager looking to play attractive football, and genuine world-class players, St James’ Park is like a different place than it was 12 months ago. Look no further than the atmosphere in the ground in our final home game against Arsenal.

As a result of increased demand, 1000 extra season tickets were released for sale, but I don’t think anybody was quite expecting how many people were planning to hit the site, with 30,000 people fighting to get their hands on one of the seats for next term.

We know that we are extremely limited at St James’ Park with the biggest we could realistically increase the capacity to being around 65,000. While that is by no means a tiny capacity, it’s one that Newcastle Fans could sell out twice over every week.

So, it might come to it that we have to move and build a new super stadium. Why not become the huge club we’ve long thought we could be?

Time to move?

No way. We have to stay.

Maybe it is time to move on. Bigger is better.

There’s a huge resistance to change in the fanbase with any suggestions of modernisation causing a lot of backlash, so the mere thought of moving site is akin to blasphemy for some, but really, St James’ Park is starting to show its age, it’s not big enough for what we need and while it used to to be visible from most of Newcastle as it sat proudly atop the hill in the City, it will soon disappear from view thanks to all of the building work being done around the ground.

Amanda Staveley and Merhdad Ghodoussi have already said they don’t plan to leave St James’ Park …. but maybe now they’ll be rethinking that plan.
