Word On The Tweet

‘Same old story’, ‘Shut up man’ – Many NUFC fans react to Bruce’s ambitions for ‘top players’

Plenty of Newcastle fans on Twitter have responded to quotes from Steve Bruce which outline their ambitions for the January transfer market.

Within a report in the Chronicle, Steve Bruce stated that United were going after ‘really good, top players’ this month as they look to bolster their squad for the second half of the season.

While no names were mentioned, there has been talk within the Telegraph that Olivier Giroud is being targeted by the Magpies – so that’s a name that’s surely likely to be a hit with fans.

News circulating in recent weeks have suggested that wingers and strikers are at the top of the list for Bruce, according to Sky Sports (via The Mag).

The Chronicle tweeted about Bruce’s quotes, to which many fans quite simply laughed off.

Here are some of those replies below…

Things have taken a turn for the worst in the past few weeks for the club.

Firstly, according to Premier Injuries, the club currently have 13 injuries to first-team players – a remarkably high number.

Does Bruce need to sign another centre-back this month?

Secondly, the form ever since beating Crystal Palace just before Christmas has taken a stern dip. They have lost to Manchester United, Everton, Leicester and most recently drew with League One Rochdale.

It’s a fair argument to say that the injuries have had an impact to results, though that should give even more incentive to throw themselves into the transfer market.
