Some Newcastle United fans have rubbished reports linking us with a move for Napoli centre-back Kalidou Koulibaly.
In another bombshell on the back of our ongoing takeover, Le 10 Sport revealed that the Magpies have joined the race for the highly-regarded Senegalese defender, who has been chased by some of Europe’s top clubs in recent years.
It’s easy to see why there is a queue of teams that are interested in his signature. Koulibaly, who is earning £186,000-a-week, managed to average 1.7 tackles, 3.9 clearances and a pass success rate of 88.7%, in a side that only conceded 36 goals during the 2018/19 campaign.
Would you bring Kalidou Koulibaly to St James' Park?
Yes
No
This will be boosted if Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (PIF) take control of the club from retail tycoon Mike Ashley, but are currently facing fresh questions about their background by the Premier League.
With this in mind, supporters could not see Koulibaly coming to St James’ Park and believed that we need to strengthen in other areas of the squad. One fan said that he doesn’t “approve of this” because he’s not the calibre of player that we should be looking for if there is such thing.
Aye we’re desperate for a CB, only got about 12 🥴

Whilst I accept he’s a good player, I kinda don’t wanna get any new CB’s. Schar Lejeune Fede and Lascelles are good enough for now. Fede only has a couple more years at the top but I would prefer to invest in a striker and a couple of midfielders personally

Don’t think we should look at these kind of players to start with – need to build up – look at signing the likes of Grealish, McGinn, Jiminez, McNeill, Vertonghen etc get in 5 or 6 quality PL players in and try and keep Rose or Willems
