Newcastle fans have got a lot of strikers that they can call upon in their current squad, although that doesn’t necessarily translate to having a lot of goals. So far this season the Hammers have bagged just nine goals this season, with only Watford scoring less than them so far.

Whilst bringing in a striker may be on the agenda for Steve Bruce in January to improve the goal output, he may have to be ready to offload one or two before he can do that. One man who could be set to leave is Dwight Gayle, and offloading him must be a priority.

The former Crystal Palace man is firmly behind both Joelinton and Andy Carroll in the pecking order, whilst Yoshinori Muto will also likely be ahead of the 29-year-old too. Injuries have certainly hampered Gayle as of late, this season alone he’s already missed games with a calf injury, and things don’t look like improving.

Last season saw the veteran striker plying his trade for West Bromwich Albion in the Championship, where he bagged an incredible 24 goals for the Baggies (Transfermarkt), although after they failed to win promotion he returned to Newcastle and the Premier League.

So far this season, though, he’s managed just two appearances and a total of four minutes of action, and with Ian Dennis of the BBC linking both Newcastle and West Ham to move for Genk’s Tanzanian striker Mbwana Samatta, letting Gayle go to bring in a new goalscorer looks like smart business.

Do you want to sign Mbwana Samatta in January?

Yes!

Yes!

No!

No!

There will almost certainly be Championship clubs who will be keen on taking Gayle off of the Magpies’ hands too. In his last two seasons in the second tier, he’s bagged 46 goals (Transfermarkt), and that’s a number he could certainly add to if given another chance.

  • NUFC have a goal scoring machine sitting on the bench. A player never given a chance
by Benitez nor Bruce. His name is DWIGHT GALE. They say “the stats never lie” well we
seem to be making a real show of ignoring them at Newcastle!
To even suggest that this man is behind Carrol / MUTO in the pecking order beggars
belief. For gods sake get him on the pitch and let him do what he does best – PUT THE
BALL IN THE NET – “Simples”!

  • Totally agree with Bill.
Dwight Gale can score goals, our current crop of forwards couldnt hit a barn door.
Why wont they play this natural goalscorer?
