Opinion: Key man in Spurs triumph has to be fit if Newcastle want Watford win

|

Newcastle fans enjoyed a brilliant win over Tottenham on the weekend, dragging them out of the bottom three after back-to-back losses in their two Premier League openers against Arsenal and Norwich. However, it’s a long season, and their next league game is a clash with Watford on Saturday.

The Hornets are winless so far in the league campaign and don’t have a single point to their name, but for that to stay the same after this weekend, the Magpies are going to need one of their star men from the Tottenham win to be fit and ready to play.

That man is the goalscorer from the clash Joelinton, the Brazilian striker who opened his account for the Geordies against Tottenham, and with the young forward an injury concern, Steve Bruce has a good reason to be worried ahead of the clash.

Steve Bruce claimed that he has six injury doubts, with one of them being Joelinton who has a groin injury, as per the Newcastle website. The frontman ran himself into the ground against Tottenham in a superb display but now could miss the weekend’s game.

If he does miss out then the fans will be left with just Yoshinori Muto as his striking option, and the Japanese forward doesn’t bring the same level as quality as the Brazilian goalscorer. The main aspect that Joelinton brings is his hold-up play, as the Brazilian brings his teammates into the game.

Much like Salomon Rondon last year, the goals and assists from the big striker will be key to Newcastle’s season, and after seeing him win two aerial duels, score the only goal of the game and complete two key passes against Tottenham, as per WhoScored, the striker will need to be fit to give his side a chance of victory against Watford.
