Former Newcastle player Kevin Nolan has upset some of the Toon Army by sticking up for Mike Ashley.
He was discussing the club’s situation while on talkSPORT, but judging by fans’ reactions on social media his comments have not gone down well.
Nolan said: “You can’t fault Mike Ashley.
“He’s been able to finance the club and make sure that everything is running smoothly. It is a fantastic club and what he’s done in the ground is fantastic.
“They’ve got a squad good enough to be in the Premier League. I feel for Mike. He is trying hard to give the Newcastle fans what they want.”
Some of the supporters have found his views bizarre and accused him of making an attempt to become Rafa Benitez’s replacement.
And of course, he made these comments days after Ayoze Perez completed his move to Leicester. Not the best of timing when supporters are already demanding a boycott of matches until Ashley is gone.
It would seem the fans have now turned on the former player and some took to Twitter to share their opinions on his comments.
One stated he was ‘so disappointed’ whilst another felt that he expected better’ from a player that has worked under the current regime.
Ladies and Gentlemen. Lads and Lasses. We give you Kevin Nolan.
“You can’t fault Mike Ashley.”

Suddenly loose all respect for a player who we used to think cared about the fans and the club. Clueless and pathetic
