As always seems the case when Newcastle United are concerned, there is still huge amount of uncertainty around the club and who will be the owner when the 2021/22 season.

Amanda Staveley, the Reuben brothers and the Saudi Arabian Public Investment Fund would surely have thought they would have the keys of St. James’ Park by now but the takeover failed to materialise last year and is very much still rumbling on now.

Staveley has tried to purchase the football club on numerous occasions and she clearly sees the great untapped potential on Tyneside and she spoke to Bloomberg and a few quotes have got Toon fans talking takeover again.

She spoke about the European Super League and put on record her negative view of the debacle citing reasons such as the potential rewards of winning a place in the UEFA Champions League.

Interestingly, she also refused to be drawn into comment around the takeover stating: “Firstly, I am party to strict Non-Disclosure Agreements, so I cannot speak about Newcastle United at this time.”

Whilst on the face of it, this quote may not tell us very much, it does show that the process is ongoing which may just offer supporters a bit of positivity that they are still trying to buy it.

The quote that has got the most traction on social media is: “They also understand that when we become owners, we become custodians of important entities within their local communities.”

To put it in context, she is responding to a question about Middle Eastern owners rather than their consortium specifically but could the use of the word ‘we’ be significant in suggesting that the process is ticking along nicely and their is genuine expectation of a takeover? Perhaps that is grasping at straws.

Other interesting features were the financial power of the group and the fact she refused to make comment on the leadership of the Premier League but did state that it is the best league in the world.
