Not Good Enough – 61% Of Newcastle Fans Polled Are Against Bid For Japanese Ace

|

German newspaper Bild reported on Tuesday that we remain interested in signing Yoshinori Muto from Bundesliga club Mainz.

The Japanese international has been linked with a move to St James’ Park before, but it seems that this time West Ham are also in the mix for the 25-year-old.

I gauged the opinion of supporters to see if we should go after the striker, and the majority don’t believe he would be good enough:

Admittedly I haven’t seen much of Muto myself. He didn’t make much of an impression at the World Cup, being left on the bench for three of Japan’s four matches.

The one game he did feature in was the final group game against Poland which his side lost 1-0. He was replaced by first-choice Yuya Osako for their 3-2 defeat to Belgium in the last 16.

Reports suggest we are focused on recruiting West Brom’s Salomon Rondon so our interest in Muto is unlikely to be followed up on.
