This is a bid I don’t think many people saw coming, and it looks like it’s one that fans are quite pleased to see get knocked back with several replies to the above tweet simply saying “Thank you , Watford”.
Pedro had a decent impact when Watford were promoted to the Premier League, however, last season in the top flight he only managed to bag three goals and one assist. Hardly seems like someone who is going to add an extra dimension for us up front. We already have Allan Saint-Maximin and Miguel Almiron who are perfectly good at producing chuff all, we don’t need another.
Should We Have Another Punt For Joao Pedro
Yes, he's young, he can improve
No thanks!
On the flip side, he has already netted this season scoring the winner on the opening day against Sheffield United, but again, that’s in the Championship so whether the ability is there to perform at the top level isn’t clear after just one season in the EPL with a struggling Watford side. And at just 20 years old, the Brazilian could benefit from playing alongside the likes of Callum Wilson, Bruno Guimaraes and Joelinton.
In the report on this transfer by 90min they mention that Newcastle are still interested in Bamba Dieng from Marseille which seems to have sparked the imaginations of the Geordies much more than this news.
Watford have slapped a “Not for sale ” sticker on Joao Pedro, however, it’s believed that hasn’t been enough to put Newcastle off just yet. Let’s hope they have a re-think.
