News: Newcastle United are looking to bring in Venezuelan hotshot

|

Newcastle are supposedly looking to reunite Miguel Almiron with his strike partner from Atlanta United.

Josef Martinez is in scintillating form having scored for 15 matches in a row, and he is closing in on Lionel Messi’s world record of scoring in 21 consecutive games.

This run is attracting attention from many top clubs across Europe, but Newcastle’s head scout Steve Nickson is also paying close attention to Martinez.

When at Atlanta Almiron and Martinez contributed to 77 goals – their partnership was lethal, and according to a report the Toon are keen on bringing Martinez to the club so he can be with Almiron.

The report, however, claims that he is just one name on a list of potential targets as Newcastle already think about strengthening their squad.

Martinez is now 26 and did have a spell in Serie A with Torino where he managed 13 goals in 76 appearances – so the Toon may not be keen on splashing out on Martinez and could have other players in mind.

One thing for certain, though, is that the striker is on some scoring run and a club from Europe is sure to take a risk on Martinez.

Whether that is Newcastle though remains to be seen.
