Newcastle United’s captain Jamaal Lascelles was delighted with the Toon’s 1-0 win over Manchester United, and he believes that the Magpies have now set their standard for the rest of the season.
Newcastle were aggressive and put the Red Devils under a lot of pressure from the beginning; they did not get their rewards until the second half, when debutant Matty Longstaff popped up with a dream goal.
Lascelles, though, was full of praise for everyone in a black and white shirt, and he was thrilled with the reaction from his side.
The 25-year-old was involved in an altercation with some fans outside of the King Power after the Toon were hammered 5-0 by a rampant Leicester City team.
So, he was buzzing that Newcastle responded with a win.
The Toon captain’s focus quickly shifted onto the next game at Chelsea with Lascelles determined that Newcastle turn in another big performance and hopefully seal back-to-back wins for the first time this season.
The result lifted the gloom on Tyneside, and many Newcastle fans head into the international break in high spirits – let’s hope that Steve Bruce’s men can keep the same levels of determination for their trip to Stamford Bridge a week on Saturday.
