Newcastle youngster Elliot Anderson is reportedly making a big impression whilst with the England under 19 setup.

In what is his first call up the the side, he has been selected to play in the number 10 role in a training game against Arsenal Under 23s.

The report comes from the Chronicle’s chief Newcastle United writer Lee Ryder who also claims that he has been impressing in training with the young three lions squad.

Anderson is highly rated at United and in the brief cameos that he has had in the first team, it’s clear to see why.

He was brought on for his debut in the FA Cup third round defeat to Arsenal in the 81st minute and he showed some nice and neat touches before we eventually went on to lose the game in extra time.

For being such a young player, the 18-year old didn’t look overawed by the situation and many fans thought and hoped this would be the start of a run of games for the Whitley Bay born lad.

Unfortunately he only has one other appearance in the first team to his name and this was a brief showing as an 87th minute substitute in a 3-0 loss against Arsenal, this time in the Premier League.

So why haven’t we seen more of the youngster?

We have seriously lacked a creative midfielder and it is contributing factor for the shocking run of form, Anderson should have at least been given an opportunity to prove that he is able to step up to the fold.

What is even stranger about the situation is that Anderson was wanted by clubs in the Championship on loan but the club reportedly resisted the offers citing that he would be able to get more game time at Newcastle.

This has not materialised and he has missed out on game time at a decent level that could have been vital for his improvement as a player.
