Newcastle Women’s Team Take Things To The Next Level

|

Amanda Staveley has said from day one that the Women’s team, along with all of the academy are equally as important as the first team and with bringing Dan Ashworth on board, whose philosophy is to have all aspects of the club operating the same way, that point was hammered home even further.

Now today it was announced that the Women’s team will be getting a development squad of their own for the first time since 2016.

A club statement read: “The development team will ensure that young players in the North East region are given a platform to progress as footballers, while also providing them with a pathway into the Newcastle United Women first team.

“Last season, the Lady Magpies squad featured impressive youngsters such as dynamic winger Georgina Spraggon, deadly striker Becky Ferguson and Newcastle Women’s Young Player of the Season, Keira Skelton.

“The emergence of a development team ensures that manager Becky Langley can draw from a gifted pool of players for years to come, and highlights the club’s commitment to nurturing the tremendous young footballers from the region.”

The news piggybacks onto the good feelings surrounding the Women’s team after their game against Alnwick at St James’ Park last season which brought 22,000 fans to the stadium to watch. The Women’s team narrowly missed out on promotion last term but no doubt their confidence will be high going into the new season. We wish the lasses luck as they go for the top this time around.
