Newcastle United v Leicester City – Team News

|

Tonight sees Newcastle host Leicester City in the Carabao Cup quarter-final – kick-off is 8pm live on Sky Sports.

The teams are in ahead of kick-off and Eddie Howe has made many changes to the side that was knocked out of the FA Cup by Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday.

The impenetrable back five has returned with Nick Pope, Kieran Trippier, Fabian Schar and Dan Burn restored alongside Sven Botman. Callum Wilson will lead the line from kick-off with Alexander Isak poised and ready on the bench.

Bruno Guimaraes is alongside Sean Longstaff and Joe Willock with Joelinton and Miguel Almiron flanking Wilson. It’s the same team that held Arsenal to a 0-0 draw at the Emirates last week.

Allan Saint-Maximin has recovered from his illness and finds himself on the bench along with Isak. Karl Darlow replaces Martin Dubravka on the bench after he made two appearances for Manchester United in this competition and finds himself cup tied.

James Maddison is still missing from the Leicester City line-up who go with Patson Daka up front over Jamie Vardy. Newcastle target Youri Tielemans and former Magpie, Ayoze Perez are both in the starting lineup.

Own-goal machine, Wout Faes – the man unfavourably compared to Fabricio Coloccini on Boxing Day is back in defence for The Foxes.

Newcastle need a result to put the disappointment from Saturday in their rear-view mirror and I believe that we definitely have what it takes to see off this Leicester side again. It might not be as comprehensive a victory as Boxing Day, but it should be a victory nonetheless.
