Newcastle United is evidently hot property at the minute, so much so that there is another buyer waiting in the wings should the £300m Saudi Arabian takeover bid collapse, according to the Telegraph’s Luke Edwards.

The Premier League have currently stalled on giving an official decision over the Magpies’ deal with the paperwork being submitted over two months ago.

Since then, plenty of reports have surfaced putting everything in ‘serious doubt’ – the Guardian revealed a WTO report into pirate streaming service beoutQ, which appears to be the source of the problem.

Are you worried the Saudi deal will collapse?

Yes!

Yes!

No!

No!

It remains to be seen how the PL will rule given the Saudi state’s reported involvement in the illegal service and its ties to the consortium – led by PCP Partners’ Amanda Staveley – wanting to take the helm at St James’ Park.

And now a fresh twist has been issued by Edwards, who tweeted that American businessman Henry Mauriss’ interest in the club is “genuine and credible”.

He said:

This is potentially good news for us Magpies supporters as it means that a return for Mike Ashley is becoming increasingly unlikely regardless of the outcome from the Premier League’s owners and directors test.

At the end of the day, he’s the man we want rid of the most in the northeast.

However, the Saudi’s deal would bring a wealth of riches to United with their public investment fund taking 80% ownership whereas Mauriss would arrive as a mystery man somewhat.

Either way, this process is only going to continue to rumble on until the PL hinges on one side of the fence. Hopefully, we’ll know more soon.
