ChronicleLive journo Mark Douglas issued a fresh Newcastle United takeover update on Monday afternoon.
The reputable Magpies reporter likened the scenario to Southampton’s 2017 saga which saw Gao Jisheng’s attempt to purchase the south coast outfit blocked before it was approved on appeal.
That took a very long eight months – And here we are, three months in staring down the barrel at a similar situation.

However, Douglas believes this won’t be the case for the Saudi Arabian consortium poised to take the reigns at St James’ Park as they are “adamant” that it is good to go.
In response to one fan on Twitter, he said:
If I hadn't been speaking to people in the consortium I'd suspect that was the case. But they are adamant it's good to go.

If Douglas is indeed true with his words, then you have to wonder what the buyers are being told about the takeover to be so confident that it will pass. It’s been over 12 weeks since this all began – it should have been a mere month or so.
It remains to be seen if they are reading signals wrong or if the Premier League are doing the opposite of what they’re actually saying.
Either way, it’s hardly much encouragement to the Magpies faithful who are sat eagerly awaiting some sort of outcome.
