Newcastle United weren’t able to replicate their winning form from the weekend as they drew with Aston Villa at St James’ Park on Wednesday evening.

The Magpies took the lead when two of Steve Bruce’s substitutes combined in the 68th minute with Dwight Gayle getting on the end of Andy Carroll’s free-kick, but that was shortlived as the visitors bagged seven minutes from time.

Ahmed Elmohamady caught the defence napping from a corner to give the relegation-threatened strugglers a lifeline.

Once again, there were no supporters in attendance, but the game was widely broadcast and fans did indeed tune in and despite the poor performance, they were thrilled with winger Allan Saint-Maximin.

If the takeover falls through, can we keep ASM?

Absolutely!

Absolutely!

Not a chance!

Not a chance!

Per SofaScore, the 23-year-old recorded a whopping ten successful dribbles, won 13 of his 19 duels and had three attempts at goal without being able to find the net.

It’s led to some fans lauding him up to be an “entertainer” in the same ilk as Hatem Ben Arfa and Laurent Robert whilst others described his display as “phenomenal.”

There were also many in disbelief that the northeast side have a star of his quality playing in the black and white stripes.

Here’s how the rest of the fanbase reacted…
