Speaking to the BBC, Sports Minister HRH Prince Abdulaziz bin Turki Al Faisal has hinted that PIF could make another move to buy Newcastle United should the chance arise.

Indeed, fans of the Magpies may well be bored to tears in regards to takeover updates but the state of limbo the club are currently in surely can’t continue much longer.

After the club’s prospective Saudi Arabian buyers pulled out of a deal following lengthy talks with the Premier League, the saga has naturally gone quiet on the official front. There have been reports of legal action demanding to know why a deal wasn’t approved, but nothing concrete just yet.

When asked whether or not the country’s public investment fund would make another attempt to buy the club, Prince Adulaziz replied: “I don’t know what PIF’s plans are, but if there’s an opportunity, they’d look into it.”

Clearly, he’s not really saying anything there and remains fairly cagey about the whole affair. Still, given how strongly a play PIF made for the Toon Army, it’s promising to hear that there could well be an interest retained should a deal present itself in future.

Perhaps it’s better to focus only when things are confirmed but to hear from someone influential in Saudi Arabia certainly is interesting.
