Newcastle United shot stopper Karl Darlow is heavily linked to a move away from St. James’ Park this summer and reports in the Chronicle state that he isn’t short of admirers.

Darlow leaving the club would not surprise me in the slightest, he was reportedly unhappy when he found out in the press that he had been dropped for Martin Dubravka before the Head Coach told him.

Personal grievances aside, Darlow has showcased his abilities this season and without him United may well already be relegated, he has shown that he is better than just being an understudy and he deserves a starting spot in the top flight.

Also, Darlow is set to have England aspirations and he found himself out of the side at exactly the wrong time as Gareth Southgate had supposedly been impressed with what he had seen from him, but when a place came vacant due to an injury to Jordan Pickford, Darlow was out of the starting 11 and the place in the squad went to Sam Johnstone of West Bromwich Albion instead.

The reasons are valid for the goalkeeper wanting to depart the club and it has the potential to suit all parties as we are not short of keepers at present.

Martin Dubravka is one of the few keepers in the division that could keep someone of Darlow’s qualities out of the side on a regular bases and Freddie Woodman has quickly announced himself as one of the best stoppers in the Championship during his two loan spells with Swansea City.

One thing is for sure; if he were to leave Darlow would leave with the best wishes of Toon fans as he has been a magnificent servant to the club in his time here. His most noteworthy highlight would be him keeping goal for the majority of our Championship winning 2016/17 campaign.
