Today sees the release of the new fixtures for the forthcoming premier league season and with it, the exaggerated furore from the media on reporting it.
It is after all the worst kept secret in football with all twenty clubs that compete being known since the later parts of May with today just all about reporting what order we play our games in.
With Newcastle having no local derby yet again to try to claim the local bragging rights, it’s up to the games against the top 5 or 6 to whet the appetite although the lack of incoming players may scupper the enthusiasm levels that today’s reminder will bring.
The league has been put on the back burner with the Summer break and the World Cup being the distraction but with focus going back on football’s bread and butter, there’s always the chance that some pressure may be applied to the regime here by their lack of action but with history not being on our side with our pathetic attempts at showing our disdain I wouldn’t hold the breath.
For today though and against a backdrop of a leaked fixture list that saw us face Fulham away, I’d personally predict that it will be an away trip to the capital that sees our season start and I reckon it’ll be Chelsea.
