This won’t be the first time I’ve expressed my fears about the tenure of Rafael Benitez as the Newcastle United manager.

Since joining us, it’s fair to say that the Spaniard has done a remarkable job.

I doubt there are many others who could have achieved what Rafa has done for us, taking us out of the Championship and then securing our Premier League status for another season.

Therefore, I find it a little disconcerting to read in the local media, the Northern Echo, that Rafa could soon be managing the Spanish national side.

With Julen Lopetegui having been sacked after announcing he would be taking the vacant post at Real Madrid, for next season, our referenced source is suggesting that Rafa is under serious consideration for the Spanish job, in the long term.

However, it remains to be seen whether Rafa would be interested in the post knowing that he’d not be involved, in a daily basis, with running a club side.

But, if Rafa doesn’t get backing, in the transfer market from the clubs owner, then the option of walking into a prestigious post just might appeal to him.

But what are your feelings on the subject matter?

Do you believe Rafa would be interested in the national job if it were to be offered to him?
