Newcastle are not giving up on long-term target even if clubs are far apart – report

|

Steve Bruce has not given up hope on bringing his former player in Jarrod Bowen back to the club this summer, even with the two clubs far apart on their valuation of the player, per reports.

The Telegraph have reported that United are still very much interested in bringing the prolific wide man to St James’ Park, though it is said that the club are ‘unimpressed’ by the Championship’s valuation of the player – somewhere over the £20m mark.

It is said that the Tigers are very willing to depart with their star man, but it will all boil down to whether or not they can get the money they want for the forward, as if they don’t, they may see it as more beneficial to get another six months out of him.

The report claims that Newcastle are willing to splash around £12m upfront on Bowen, as well as add some performance-related additions which could boost the fee.

Bowen would like to sign for the club, however, negotiations have not made any movements since Toon made an approach last week.

Grant McCann’s Hull, who are currently 12th in the table, are not budging on their fee, which could see United go after other targets.

Should we spend £20m on Bowen?

Yes - just get it done

We shouldn't spend more than £12m

Don't want him

Hull face a bit of an issue in that Bowen’s contract expires at the end of the campaign, though they have an option of an extension so it is essentially at the end of next season. Given the pressure Championship clubs are under to ensure they do not overspend, not many can afford to pass on opportunities that would see the team earn that sort of money.

However, he is their player and you can understand why they don’t want to let him go for under £20m.

It’s a lot of money, but when you consider that Ademola Lookman would cost at least £22m and Joelinton costs £40m, it’s a pretty fair price given his goal record of 16 goals from 28 games in midfield this season.

Furthermore, with Newcastle offering £12m now, Hull will be pretty confident they could get that much money for him in the summer with his contract expiring, so why let him leave now?

If the club really wants Bowen then they should go closer to that asking price, or face the risk of losing him to another side.
