New Owners Already Fulfilling Promises

|

What a difference a year (almost) makes.

When the PIF, Staveley and Ruebens took over Newcastle last year, nutters in the media expected Newcastle to go all free-spending but Amanda Staveley and Co  were quick to quell those rumours and laid out a plan of steady, sustainable growth for the club.

That being said, in their first transfer window in charge they brought in a world-class defender in Kieran Trippier and then went on to equal the club’s transfer record to bring in Brazilian International, Bruno Guimaraes. And now in just their second transfer window, they have shattered that transfer record and brought in highly-rated Swedish striker, Alexander Isak for a deal worth up to £63 million.

So while the media getting carried away with silly names like Neymar and Mbappe was wide of the mark, the owner’s idea of “steady” is still a lot more exciting than we may have thought.

It’s not just the personnel they’ve brought in on the pitch that’s exciting either, the idea of the appointment of Eddie Howe had certain pundits literally laughing into their microphones, well, who’s laughing now? Eddie Howe has steadied the ship, plugged the defence and got the team playing a much more attractive brand of football, all the while sitting fourth in the table of points picked up in 2022.

Then there’s the likes of Dan Ashworth coming in to make sure that all aspects of the club are running as best they can, and above him, Darren Eales is here to make sure Ashworth and Howe have everything they need to do their jobs to the best of their ability while increasing commercial revenue to enable even bigger transfers.

The future is so bright for Newcastle that Wor Flags will have to start leaving Ray Bans and factor 50 on the seats at St James’ Park.
