Miguel Almiron looks set to be rewarded for his amazing performances this season, as the Newcastle board ready a new contract offer for the Paraguayan international. ‘Miggy’ still has 18 months remaining on his current deal, but Eddie Howe and co are keen to tie him down to a new and improved contract ahead of time.
Almiron has been reborn since Howe came to the club. The 28-year-old’s work rate had never been in doubt, but his ability to create and score goals had become frustrating to the Toon Army. This season, however, he has been a figurehead for his team’s top-four challenge, scoring 9 goals and providing 1 assist in just 16 games.
News of Almiron’s contract talks was provided by famed transfer expert, Fabrizio Romano who posted on his Twitter page:
“Miguel Almirón in his first 110 apps in Premier League: 9 goals. Miguel Almirón in 16 Premier League games this season: 9 goals. Eddie Howe changed his life.
“Newcastle will discuss a new deal for Almirón in the next months, current one expires in June 2024.”

According to FBRef.com, Almiron’s current contract is said to be worth £40,000 per week – the same amount as Ryan Fraser, and nearly 1/3 less than the highest earners, Bruno Guimaraes and Alexander Isak. Almiron signed for Newcastle in 2019 for what was a then club record £21 Million – a fee that was also the highest paid for an MLS player.
In further good news for Miggy, he has also been named Paraguayan footballer of the year for a record third time.
