Liverpool Ace Would Be An Ideal Signing For Newcastle – Agree?

|

The Chronicle are suggesting that the club may weigh up moves for one of three Liverpool strikers. Danny Ings, Daniel Sturridge and Divock Origi could all leave Anfield this summer, but personally, out of the three, there is only one I think would be a good fit.

With Sturridge’s injuries and £15m price tag, and Origi’s less than stellar season away on loan at Wolfsburg, I think the focus of our attention should be on Ings.

Despite having sustained two serious knee injuries over the past few years, and having played just 25 times in three seasons for the Reds, the former Burnley man would tick a lot of boxes.

For Rafa Benitez, a high work rate is absolutely vital, and the 25-year-old would certainly work his socks off playing as a lone striker.

Unlike others, who work hard but fail to hit the back of the net, Ings’ record in front of goal is pretty decent. During the 2013/14 season, he scored 21 goals in the Championship, before hitting double figures during his first season in the top flight with Burnley.

His four goals in three years on Merseyside doesn’t sound great, but you have to bear in mind both his injuries, but also his playing time. He managed just 947 minutes during his time at Liverpool. That’s just 10 full matches.

Of course, the biggest concern is that due to his knee problems, he hasn’t returned the same player. However, if that was the case, Reds boss Jurgen Klopp wouldn’t be so reluctant to let the striker leave the club.

There is believed to be an amicable agreement between the player and the club that will allow the player to depart this summer. The Telegraph say the fee will not be “prohibitive” and considering our modest transfer budget, it seems like a move for Ings would be possible.

It would certainly be a risk, but considering the lack of funds that Rafa Benitez has at his disposal, the striker would likely be an attractive option. We have been interested in him previously, and now he’s available, it’s surely the right time to make a bid. What do you think? Let me know in the poll.
