Isak Deal Still A Possibility According To Journalist

|

Lee Ryder of The Chronicle has revealed that Newcastle tabled a bid of around £40m for young Swedish striker, Alexander Isak last month.

The bid was rejected by Real Sociedad who are asking for nearer to £50m for the young forward. This suggests that Newcastle and Sociedad’s valuations aren’t a million miles apart, and with Newcastle still to bring in attacking reinforcements, a return with a higher bid may not be off the table.

Newcastle have since looked at the likes of Luis Muriel of Atalanta and Benfica’s Goncalo Ramos who scored the Portuguese outfit’s opening goal in their 3-2 pre-season friendly win against Newcastle.

Who Would Be The Best Fit For Newcastle?

Luis Muriel

Goncalo Ramos

Alexander Isak

Muriel is allegedly holding out for an approach from Juventus as he’d prefer to stay in Italy. At 31 he doesn’t seem to fit the profile of what Eddie Howe is after, whereas Ramos would tick a lot of boxes. He’s young but experienced and knows where the back of the net is. He’d also be substantially less expensive than Isak with Benfica likely to listen to offers of around £30-£35m.

Whoever Dan Ashworth ultimately makes a move for, it’s looking increasingly likely that Newcastle will be heading down to Brighton with just two strikers on the books. Eddie Howe hasn’t hit the big red panic button yet, but with time and options running out, Newcastle definitely need to step up a gear in the transfer market, both in terms of incoming and outgoing.
