Lots of Newcastle fans have had their say on Twitter after Kevin Phillips commented on the current injury situation on Tyneside.
The Sunderland legend and pundit spoke to Football Insider about some of the Magpies’ problems and said that in all the years that he’s been in football, he has never seen an injury list as extensive as theirs.
Asked by Football Insider if he had ever seen anything like United’s injury list, Phillips replied: “Never – 10, 12 players injured. I’ve been at 9 clubs in my career, coached at three, never seen an injury list like that.”
Despite the forward not even being particularly critical of the club, this still inspired many of the Newcastle fans to stick the boot in on him on Twitter.

No
One fan asked “why a Mackem” was commenting on the club and said that he would take a lot more notice if it was said by a former player of the club.
Another provided a timely reminder of just how far off Sunderland are to Newcastle. This fan joked that he looked forward to reading Alan Shearer’s comments on how the Black Cats were getting on in the middle of League One.

Why is a Mackem commenting on us, I’m not interested In what he has to say, If however it was a former #nufc player I’d give it more notice

In fairness to Phillips, he makes a fair point about the sheer quantity of injuries to players. If fans knew that this amount of key players would have been injured before the start of the season, I doubt many would be expecting to be sat on 26 points.
According to Premier Injuries, the club are now dealing with 10 who are injured going into the Chelsea game – the joint highest in the league with Bournemouth.
