‘Invaluable to the team’ – Many Newcastle fans react to outrageous stat

|

Magpies supporters have been reacting on Reddit lately after one user revealed that Salomon Rondon has been directly involved in 44% of our goals this season.

His eye-catching record is the highest percentage any Newcastle player has set since Alan Shearer, when our iconic former England international was involved in half our of total strikes during the 2003/04 campaign.

That year saw Shearer net 22 times as we fired home 52 on route to fifth place, whereas Rondon has nine to his name from our 36, while assisting a further seven – including Ayoze Perez’s opening goal in our 1-1 draw at Brighton on Saturday.

Our Venezuelan failing to score his tenth of the campaign when we traveled to the Amex, though, meant the 29-year-old went a fifth game without breaking the goal-line himself.

The man he set-up to score on the south coast, Perez, also moved two clear of him as our top ‘scorer, before he was forced off with a hip injury.

Supporters on Reddit, however, do not feel the stat paints the whole picture of what the influential on-loan West Brom forward offers Rafa Benitez, and that Mike Ashley needs to think beyond his resale value…
