With ongoing speculation at Newcastle United, both in terms of owner Mike Ashley but also manager Rafa Benitez, Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers appears to have become flavour of the month over the weekend to replace the Spaniard should he depart as many fans think he will given the constraints at the club.
With Newcastle sitting in the relegation zone, albeit with plenty of time to fix that given we are only in October, the future of Benitez is a well-trodden path in the media given off-pitch issues at St James’ Park.
Given the lull of the October international break and real news disappearing, it’s no surprise to see some like the Mirror invent claims that Rodgers has been lined up to replace Rafa should the club choose to sack him as we search for a first win, but the shoddy piece probably speaks for itself.
Social media is what social media does though, and given the mention and suggestion, some Newcastle fans have put some thought into it.
If rafa does go (and no one can blame him), Rodgers would probably be the best appointment we could make.

I doubt it this very much. No one in their right mind would come here at the moment with the way Ashley and his three not so wise numpties are going on

Why in the world would he come and work with Ashley. No one will want the job.

no way he would leave Celtic to come here

If Rafa leaves then I wouldn’t mind but don’t sack Rafa for him

The problem is not Rafa. Rodgers would have the same problems. #nufc

It might be nonsense and a left-field suggestion as despite our lack of points, plenty will point to the sides we have faced in defence of our gaffer but clearly, Rodgers appears to tick the box for many if we do see a change in the dugout.
I just don’t see why he would as surely he’d know what he was walking into and money doesn’t always talk in the game, as was eloquently stated by some in their own responses.
