Goalkeeper Given New Deal

|

Following on from yesterday’s talk of Darlow being allowed to leave on loan if Loris Karius signed a new deal, the picture is now much clearer.

Loris Karius is said to be close to signing a new deal at Newcastle which will keep him at the club until the end of the season with further talks planned for later this year regarding an extension.

This will have Huddersfield on high alert as they have had Karl Darlow in their sights. The Northern Echo has suggested that Huddersfield will likely want to sign Darlow right away due to injuries in their squad, but believe that Howe will want to wait until the end of the window before making a decision on the future of his ‘keepers.

With it looking likely Karius will be staying at Newcastle for a few more months at least, it definitely makes sense for someone to go out on loan, and I’d prefer that it be Darlow.

Darlow has been a great servant to the club during his time here, but he never really hit the levels we were expecting. His runs in the first team were always as a deputy when our first-choice keeper was injured, and he was always dropped again when they returned. He was never able to make that slot his own, and at 32 it’s highly unlikely he will get that chance at Newcastle, so it’s the right time to let him go and hopefully nail down that first-choice place somewhere else.
