Genius: Return of Newcastle fan favourite is exactly what the club needs – opinion

|

Over the last few years, it seems like Newcastle has lost its soul. Whether it’s the players, the management or, indeed, the ownership, it’s fair to say that we’ve gone off course somewhat.

Fortunately, Rafael Benitez is steadying the ship, and the club is doing its bit too, with, according to the Chronicle, the Academy setup being revamped at St. James’ Park.

The Chronicle’s latest update on that matter has helped to add some extra insight on the topic, too, with Shola Ameobi believed to be under consideration.

This is very exciting news, not only in the fact that the club are actively seeking to upgrade the Academy, but in who they’ve chosen to help contribute.

Ameobi, of course, is a fan favourite amongst Newcastle fans for the brilliant work and effort he put in whilst wearing the famous black and white shirt at St. James’ Park.

By bringing him back to the club, he’ll help to add some much-needed soul to an Academy that has lost its way over the last few years. He knows what it means to play for Newcastle, and he knows what it means to love the club, and if he can impart just some of that passion onto the young players at the club, they’ll be much better for it.

Beyond that, of course, Ameobi was a fantastic player in his day, and so he’ll obviously be able to improve the players from a technical standpoint, but improving the fabric of the club is arguably an even bigger task.

It’s important that Newcastle bring in people that know the club inside and out, and then it can finally grow once more.
