Former Tottenham and Manchester United striker Dimitar Berbatov congratulated Alan Shearer on his 48th birthday by sharing a picture of himself wearing an old Newcastle shirt.
The Bulgarian said he was inspired by the legendary number nine when he was younger and was glad he was able to emulate his hero by playing in the Premier League:
As i told you, mothers keep everything! So i go to see my mom and what i find! The shirt she and my dad made for me when i was 15 years old and big fan of 2 people – @ashearer9 and @marcovanbasten ????⚽️???????? I was dreaming of playing in @premierleague with N9 and scoring goals like Shearer! In the end i made it ????????????⚽️ So happy birthday to the legend @ashearer9 from me and my daughter???????? And the shirt still fits me… what ???????? #football #dreamscometrue #goals
Berba must have been a tall lad when he was younger for it to still fit him pretty much perfectly! It would have been great to have seen the forward playing in the Black and White during his prime.
He is, in fact, still playing, but the 37-year-old hasn’t found a new club since leaving Indian Super League outfit Kerala Blasters back in March.
A bit too old for us now I think, but hopefully our new number nine, Salomon Rondon, can deliver on the pitch and make a good impression when he makes his first start for the club.
