Former England international goalkeeper Paul Robinson has spoken about some of the comments made by Miguel Almiron whilst speaking to a Paraguayan radio station.

Robinson was very scathing of Miggy, accusing him of unnecessarily having a go at this team mates at the worst possible time.

The ex-Spurs goalie spoke to The Football Insider and had this to say about the controversial interview given by the Paraguayan international

“It is a complete slur on your teammates.

“It is the last thing you need when you are in a relegation battle and your team are not playing well. When your backs are against the wall you don’t need one of your better players saying stuff like that.”

It is an interesting point made by Robinson and players may not have been happy to hear Miggy state that he wants to play in a team that tries more.

I agree with Robinson that it is a ‘complete slur’ on his teammates but it is a slur that is absolutely spot on and I imagine few Toon fans will have disagreed or grown any sort of anger towards the 27-year old pace attacker following his comments.

Despite making a half interesting point, Robinson completely lets himself down by almost admitting he has not watched any Newcastle games recently by accusing Almiron of not working hard enough.

Remarkably, he also told Football Insider:

“If it was a player who had consistently fought hard every week and gives 110 per cent with tackles and runs you could have more sympathy for those comments. If it had come from a captain, or a leader at the club, you could take it more easily.

“But coming from Almiron, I do not think that will go down too well. People in glass houses shouldn’t throw stones.”

Laughable. If he had watched any of our games this season or last, he would know that the last person to lack effort is Almiron. To accuse him of throwing stones in a glass house is nothing short of a joke.

Why people who clearly know nothing about the situation see fit to pass comment about goings on at Newcastle United is beyond me, he certainly won’t be the last!
