Sky Sports have reported that Newcastle and West Ham have agreed to a fee for the young right-back, Harrison Ashby.
This is another player that Newcastle have been trying to sign since the summer and it seems as they have finally got their man after a fee of £3m was agreed upon between the two clubs. Keith Downie says that Ashby is due to travel north for his medical.

Newcastle tried on deadline day in the summer to sign Ashby, but West Ham wanted to keep hold of the Scotland Under 21 international. It seems now, though, that Newcastle’s persistence has paid off.
Another one for the future, it seems as Ashby has only made seven senior appearances for West Ham so far, three of which were in Europe. He is very highly rated by the club, and by Newcastle, clearly. If all goes through, Ashby will no doubt be taken under the wing of Kieran Trippier, who will doubtlessly be able to help unlock Ashby’s potential.
This signing not only fits with the club’s new mentality of buying young prospects for the future, but also increases the number of “home grown” players at the club should we find ourselves competing in Europe.
With Newcastle now seemingly landing two of their main transfer targets in this window, is there still time for the big one, James Maddison? Leicester city have just announced they’ve signed Tete on loan for the rest of the season, so does that move give Leicester the freedom to let Maddison leave? Fingers crossed.
