Some Newcastle United fans have been reacting on social media after the club announced that former Ipswich Town Under 23s boss Chris Hogg was on his way to St. James’ Park.
Hogg has officially taken up the U23s lead player development coach position in the Magpies youth set-up, which had been vacant since Neil Redfearn stepped down from the role in early November.
Redfearn was only in charge of our development side for five months and also assisted the first-team during pre-season, but walked out amid a fallout with assistant Liam Bramley, who had made a complaint to Head of Academy Coaching Ben Dawson.
Dawson had been in a caretaker head coach role with the U23s since Redfearn’s departure and helped guide the club’s prospects to seventh place in the Premier League 2 Group 2 table, to sit four points outside the Play-Off places.
Did Dawson deserve the permanent U23s job?
Yes, if he wanted it
No, let's move on
Hogg will now take over from Dawson in the U23s, who will revert to his role as Head of Academy Coaching.
Hogg had been coaching in the Ipswich academy for the past few years, where he worked his way up through the age levels and briefly aided Paul Hurst during his time in charge of the Town first-team.
Here are some of the messages shared as fans reacted to Hogg being unveiled as our new U23s boss…
He must be ambitious to come to a rotting club .

At least we know who’s going to replace Steve Bruce, when he’s fired.
