Loads of Newcastle United fans have been offering the same messages on social media after the Chronicle claimed Steve Bruce will have an £80million summer transfer budget.

The Chronicle’s Chief Newcastle Writer Lee Ryder discussed the topic of how much Bruce will have to spend at the close of his maiden campaign in charge of the Magpies during a recent Q&A, in which he stated categorically his belief in money being made available.

Much of the value of the budget will depend on Bruce securing the Toon’s Premier League survival and keeping the club in the top-flight for what would be a fourth-straight campaign.

Should the boss do so, Bruce should expect to have between £60m and £80m at his disposal for any targets that he either has in mind or that become available later in the market.

United spent £65m on permanent signings last summer with a club-record £40m deal for TSG Hoffenheim striker Joelinton, a £20m deal with OGC Nice for winger Allan Saint-Maximin and a £5m deal for Amiens SC right-back Emil Krafth.

The club also acquired Jetro Willems on loan from Eintracht Frankfurt for €1m (£840,355), and later concluded January loan deals for Tottenham Hotspur left-back Danny Rose at £2m, FC Schalke 04 midfielder Nabil Bentaleb at £850,000 and Inter Milan midfielder Valentino Lazaro at £1.25m.

Altogether, the club have spent £69,940,355 on transfers this season – excluding signing on bonuses, acquiring free agents such as Andy Carroll and any additional fees, such as contracts, while also not accounting for any funds raised through player sales.

Here are some of the messages shared, as loads of fans reacted to the Chronicle’s report by noting how the budget equates to two Joelinton’s…

In other Newcastle United news, the club are scouting a prolific 24-year-old subject to a potential €6m summer move.
