Fabrizio Romano Pours Cold Water On Defender Rumour

|

Yesterday it was reported that Newcastle were looking at Inter Milan defender, Milan Skriniar as the Slovakian beast runs down his contract.

However, today, Fabrizio Romano has said he’s unaware of any talks between Newcastle and Milan (Inter or Skriniar) and that PSG is his most likely destination. Writing in his daily column for CaughtOffside, Romano said that he was aware of interest from Chelsea as well as PSG, but didn’t see Newcastle’s name in the frame.

As I said yesterday, I had the pinches of salt ready for this one given that it came from Calciomercato who just seem to have their own Newcastle Wheel Of Fortune with a load of players on and whomever it lands on after they spin the wheel, they make up a story about us being interested in them. The perks of being the “richest club in the world” I suppose.

But, as January creeps ever nearer, we are likely to be linked with more and more players and picking out the likely from the unlikely is a full-time job – one that I’m happy to take on. This is a fan page after all, we aren’t the source for any of these transfer links, nor do we have any inside information, we just scour the stories for things that interest us and give our opinion on it.

Would Milan Skriniar have been a good signing? I don’t see why not. Did I ever think it was genuinely on the table? Not at all.

For all the players linked with us as we approach the transfer window, there remains only one player that I want to come to Newcastle, personally, and that’s James Maddison. If we do whatever we can to make that deal happen, I don’t care if he’s the only signing we make in January.

Come watch live tonight (Tuesday) at 8pm as I talk to a Villa fan about Joao Felix who has been linked to both clubs as well as loads of other topics and a big World Cup rant.
