Some Newcastle United fans have been heaping praise on former Magpies’ striker Les Ferdinand, and believe that he is the only man that was capable of partnering with Alan Shearer.
ToonArmy put the question to the supporters on Twitter, asking which player should be the one that can capably play alongside our club legend.
Ferdinand made the move to St James’ Park in 1995 having signed for £6m from Queens Park Rangers, 12 months before Shearer made the move to his boyhood club.
Who was better?
Andy Cole
Les Ferdinand
From 84 appearances, Ferdinand found the net 50 times and formed a devastating partnership with Shearer, who asked him for his No. 9 shirt on his arrival in 1996.
Between them, both players scored an astonishing 49 goals throughout the 1996/17 campaign, where together they obliterated opposition backlines.
With this in mind, supporters fought Ferdinand’s corner and made their feelings clear on social media. Two fans said that he is the only man “every time” and “all day”, while another added that he still had “unfinished business” at the Tyneside club.
