Does failed ESL give Toon takeover a chance?

Thankfully, the proposed European Super League is not going to happen with all six English clubs involved pulling out of the money grabbing scheme but does this have any potential impact on an ongoing Newcastle United takeover.

The Saudi Public Investment Fund, Amanda Staveley and the Reuben brothers have been engaged in takeover talks for over a year now and as a consortium achieved something we hadn’t seen before; a deal signed off with Mike Ashley.

Unfortunately the Premier League either rejected their proposal or simply refused to give them an answer one way or an other which has led to the current situation we find ourselves in, with legal proceedings and arbitration proving the only way forward.

But could the so called ‘big six’ plotting against the wishes of the Premier League have softened the feeling towards the group looking to take over at St. James’ Park?

The owners at the greedy six have shown their true colours and surely Richard Masters and co are less likely to pander after their every whim.

Amanda Staveley is on record citing pressure from some of those six clubs as being a reason for the lack of movement from the league and if that was the case, an item of contention could have just gone out the window.

Furthermore, with the consortium’s clear stance on the super league matter, could the league seek assistance in the most unlikely way possible and get new wealthy blood in the league to try and put an end to the talk.

Whilst there are suggestions to how their stance could potentially thaw on the takeover deal, there have been some other ideas suggested that do not have such a positive impact for the Magpies.

Some have suggested that the Premier League will be more wary of rich owners coming into the game but this is not a hypothesis that I buy into. Football is essentially gone now, the game is all about money and no matter how many protests there are, that will not change now and the Premier League can’t afford to shut out wealthy investors especially if the top six revisit the idea at some point.

Also, others have been quick to point out that owners of the ‘big six’ may well now be looking to sell and would the Saudis move on to buy a more ready made project. Again, this may just be being too positive but I don’t buy it.

The twitter interaction the likes of Mehrdad Ghodoussi and Jamie Reuben have had with Toon fans tell me that they very much still want to buy this club and I can’t see that changing if a more expensive option becomes available on the market.

Of course there is also the very real possibility that this changes absolutely nothing and our takeover will come down to if Nick de Marco and co and beat the Premier League in court.
