Dan The Man As Soon As You Can

|

The worst kept secret in football is nearing its conclusion according to The Mail, with Newcastle and Brighton back at the negotiation table to hash out a compensation fee for Director of Football, Dan Ashworth.

Appointing a Director of Football to identify and bring in transfer targets has been a priority for the new owners since they got the keys to St James’ Park back in October.

Ashworth, who stepped down from his Brighton post in February and was placed on gardening leave by the Seagulls for the duration of his notice period, which is set to expire in November. Newcastle offered Brighton £3m in compensation to release Ashworth from his contract early, but the Brighton hierarchy were demanding £5m and talks broke down.

Now, with an extremely important transter window about to open, Newcastle are keen to have the former FA Technical Director in place as soon as possible to help the Magpies navigate the window and recruit the best possible players.

It is believed that both parties are now hopeful of a resolution, so with a bit of luck this saga will soon be at an end.

I’m not hardened business negotiator, but Newcastle are offering £3m and Brighton want £5m it seems to me there’s a pretty obvious solution staring them in the face, here. But what do I know?
