Newcastle are on a good run, and the longer we can keep that up, the better chance we have of staying in the Premier League. Certainly, a win this weekend against West Ham will put us in a great position.
However, one man that won’t be playing against the Hammers is Jonjo Shelvey. Indeed, as per the Chronicle, Rafa Benitez has confirmed that Shelvey won’t feature as he’s personally requested to play with the under-23s instead.
Of course, the Englishman has hardly featured in 2019 owing to injury issues, and a lack of match fitness means that he likely wouldn’t have started against West Ham.
Instead of sitting on the bench, then, Shelvey is clearly eager to put himself in a better position by getting minutes with the under 23-s – and that’s a decision that has proven to be popular with Newcastle fans online.
Indeed, plenty of fans have taken to Twitter to praise the attitude of the 27-year-old. See below:
Great attitude. Exactly what is required. Needs to be patient but I think we all know how good Shelvey can be. Eventually I feel a pairing of him & Longstaff will be our best combination; although im a big fan of the work Hayden is doing & the dirty work Dima gets through #nufc
